Greetings from the CEO
L-R: eLearningDOC's Madeleine McCusker, VP of Sales, and Dr. Angela Robbins, CEO, at the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting and Expo in Cleveland this week.
Dear eLearningDOC Community,
Greetings from Cleveland, Ohio! I am writing this today from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting and Expo. My colleagues Janet Staderman, Madeleine McCusker and I have enjoyed four days of meeting association professionals spanning every industry! We have met with old friends, clients, and many of the great partners we work with in the eLearning space. We even met a robot (check our LinkedIn page for a pic!). It's been a tremendous opportunity to engage in an authentic and positive exchange of ideas.
Associations provide educational resources, training programs, and professional development opportunities.
The importance of industry associations is undeniable. Throughout the weekend, we learned about their successes in bringing companies together to advocate for shared goals and foster strong connections by helping members collaborate while navigating industry challenges. Associations also play an essential role in providing educational resources, training programs, and professional development opportunities. We were happy to exchange ideas and share our expertise from our experiences with the ten associations we are working with as clients. All in all, this conference has been a great experience!
Next month, we're heading to Fort Worth for the Texas Society of Association Executives New Ideas Conference! As conference season unfolds, we'll share insights on the educational priorities that industries are focusing on today!
Warm regards,
Angela Robbins

Improving eLearning Accessibility: Insights from the WebAIM Million Report
As eLearning continues to transform education and industry training, ensuring inclusivity for all users is paramount. Though numerous laws require online content to be accessible to all, many websites still fall short of meeting basic accessibility standards, disproportionately affecting users with disabilities and hindering their ability to access and engage with online content effectively.
96.4% of accessibility failures fall into categories that are relatively easy to fix!
Dr. Toni DiMella
In this new blog, Dr. DiMella will explore the two common accessibility issues, color contrast and alternative text for Images, and how you can address them to create more inclusive learning environments.
Accessibility: Image Descriptions for Screen Readers
How to Write alt text for Images
Alt text is essential for users who rely on screen readers. Screen readers read out the alt text, allowing visually impaired users to understand the content and function of images on a webpage. Here are a few tips for writing effective alt text for images.
Be Descriptive but Concise
Clearly describe the content and purpose of the image.Keep it brief, ideally under 125 characters.
Avoid
Redundancy
Do not start with "Image of..." or "Picture of..." since screen readers already announce it as an image.
Include Relevant Details
Mention specific details important for understanding the image's context, such as colors, text within the image, emotions, or actions.
Use Proper Punctuation
Ensure the Alt Text is grammatically correct and punctuated correctly, making it easier to understand.
Here's an example of the alt text for the image in the blog article featured in this newsletter:
Alt text: A person in a wheelchair smiling at the camera while seated in a modern office environment with other individuals working in the background.
Note how it is a complete sentence with punctuation. Written this way, it will sound more natural when read by the screen reader and be easier to understand.

Showcase: Interactive Learning Modules
Click and Reveal
This Click and Reveal interactive design fosters active participation and enhances engagement by prompting learners to actively explore the content rather than passively consume it. By clicking on the circles, learners trigger responses that provide immediate feedback, promoting a sense of achievement and reinforcing learning outcomes.
We integrate pedagogical principles into the design process. Our instructional designers skillfully ensure that modules align with the curriculum objectives and enhance outcomes for both the learner and the organization's goals.
